Stealthmate privacy policy
Last updated October 5, 2026
This notice describes personal information used by Stealthmate: A chess puzzle, including its Steam Demo and the browser micro-demo described below. The game is provided by The Late Lab development team ("we"). For questions or privacy requests, email contact@thelatelab.com. Service providers also publish their own privacy notices, linked below.
Browser micro-demo
The browser micro-demo is a lightweight version of Stealthmate. Progress and settings are stored locally in your browser and are not synchronized with Steam or the desktop game. It does not send gameplay analytics to The Late Lab. Clearing browser storage may erase your progress; different browsers and devices keep separate saves.
Hosting providers may process technical information, such as IP addresses and request logs, needed to deliver the website. The Late Lab website is hosted through GitHub Pages. If you play the micro-demo through itch.io, that platform's privacy notice also applies. The following game-service sections describe the desktop Steam version unless otherwise stated.
1. Saves and settings
The game stores campaign progress, missions, earned gold, owned and selected avatars, and settings on your computer. When Steam Cloud is enabled, eligible save files are synchronized through Valve's Steam service under your Steam account. Demo and full-game cloud saves are separate. Optional analytics consent is stored on each device, not transferred with progression.
2. Online play and leaderboards
Steam and Unity Gaming Services (UGS) support identity verification and online features. These features use account/player identifiers, authentication information, session or lobby information and technical connection data. Network service providers receive information such as your IP address when your device connects.
Leaderboards may display your player name, selected in-game avatar, rank and score to other players. Score records include stars, capture completion and elapsed time. These are online gameplay records, separate from optional analytics. Declining analytics does not remove leaderboard entries or disable the game's other online services. Offline play does not require analytics consent.
3. Optional gameplay analytics
UGS Analytics is used to understand how the game performs and improve its levels and features. Optional analytics collection is off until you choose to allow it. You can decline and continue playing, or change your choice in Settings → Privacy. A new computer requires its own choice.
When allowed, analytics can include device and session information, game/build identifiers, campaign and level played, outcomes, stars, captures, duration, moves, restarts, abandoned runs, and successful avatar purchases using earned in-game gold. The analytics identifier can be derived directly from your Steam account ID; it is not anonymous. Our custom gameplay events do not add player names, chat messages, passwords or the contents of save files.
Declining stops future optional collection through the game's consent controls; it does not itself delete information already sent. In Settings → Privacy you can also request deletion of Unity Analytics data. This request does not erase your game saves, gold, avatars or leaderboard records. If the in-game request is unavailable or you need help with other data, contact us.
4. Support and diagnostics
If you email us, we receive your address, message and any files you choose to send. Game logs or screenshots you share can contain account identifiers and technical information. Please remove information unrelated to your issue and never send passwords or authentication tokens. We use support information to respond, investigate faults and resolve requests. Our business mailbox is hosted by Hostinger.
5. Why information is used and who receives it
We use gameplay information to provide saves and online features, optional analytics to improve the game, and correspondence to provide support. Where applicable, the grounds for processing are providing the requested service, consent for optional analytics, legitimate interests in maintaining and securing the game and answering support requests, and legal obligations.
Relevant recipients are Valve/Steam, Unity/UGS, Hostinger for correspondence, and team members who need the information for these purposes. Leaderboard information is visible to other players. Providers may process information in countries other than yours; their notices describe their processing and applicable safeguards. We may also disclose information when required by law.
6. Retention and your choices
Local data remains on your device until removed. Steam Cloud data is managed through Steam. Online scores and account records can remain available while the relevant service and records are maintained. Analytics retention and deletion are governed by the configured Unity service and its deletion process; withdrawing consent is not an automatic purge. Support correspondence is kept as needed to handle the request and any relevant legal obligations. Contact us for information about a particular record or to request deletion.
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of your personal information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, and complain to your local data-protection authority. Send requests to contact@thelatelab.com, identifying the service and relevant player identifier where possible. We may need to verify ownership; do not send identity documents unless specifically requested. Requests concerning data controlled independently by Steam or another provider should also be directed to that provider.
